THE SS CAM CUP: A PRESTIGIOUS POOL COMPETITION IN AMU
The SS Cam Cup has developed into one of the major individual cam competitions in Yahoo! Pool, attracting players from many other leagues who would not otherwise necessarily be members of Straightshots by choice! The Cam Cup has become a very popular competition in All Mixed Up and we are currently awaiting details of the first season in 2012 soon.
The SS Cam Cup was initially arranged by Jonathan (crazy_canuck) using a website page designed by Laura, the former SS Head Admin, and Jonathan ran it with the help of Steven (steven.rules) for the opening six competitions before Nish (xlx_nish_xlx) took over for one season. For the first eight Cam Cup competitions, there was only one tournament but it was then split into two divisions for Competition 9 and thereafter.
Division A was for the experienced so-called 'elite' poolers – those who would have been playing in the top interleagues and other cam competitions – whilst Division B attracted other players who may not have been considered to be at the same top level, although some Div. B players moved up to join Division A and certainly did not look out of place.
After Nish's involvement, Jonathan resumed running the SS Cam Cup from Competition 8 onwards and carried on doing it until Competition 15, a total of eight Cam Cup seasons. We would like to record our thanks to Jonathan for his time-consuming contribution which helped make the SS Cam Cup one of the top individual pool events around, second only to the prestigious 8BR which is widely considered to be the best individual cam competition.
We hope to have a new organiser running the first season of 2012 and details will follow as and when he or she is ready to start it. Watch the SS shoutbox for more information. Division A and B were renamed The Gold Conference and The Silver Conference respectively for the new series in 2012. And a third tournament, called The Bronze Conference, has been formed for those players who prefer to play more for fun and will not have 'Ball In Hand' nor 'Safeties'/'Snookering'.
Below is a list of all the Gold Conference (Division A) and Silver Conference (Division B) finalists since the competition began. For the purpose of maintaining a list of all winners and runners-ups, the first competition in Division B has been labeled 'Competition 1', which coincided with Competition 9 of what became Division A. Looking through the list of SS Cam Cup winners, Scotsman Kevin reached four successive finals early on, winning three in a row, whilst Ant of England won two consecutive titles out of the four finals he has played in. Canadian Chris also won the Division A competition twice.
