INTERLEAGUE STATUS EXPLAINED

The status of interleague competitions can be defined in two categories, namely team and supplementary (or secondary) competitions.

The mainstream interleague competitions are considered to be the team events, which are the 5-v-5, 6-v-6 and 7-v-7 events. Major League Pool (MLP, 7-v-7), Pool League Championship (PLC, 7-v-7), International Pool Association (IPA, 6-v-6), World Pool Championship (WPC, 6-v-6), World Series of Pool (WSOP, 6-v-6), Universal Interleague Competition (UIC, 5-v-5), Global Interleague Trophy (GIT, 5-v-5) and World Pool All-Stars (WPA, 4-v-4) all run (or used to run in the case of MLP, PLC, IPA and GIT) such competitions.

The majority of these interleagues also run supplementary competitions, which are in the form of multi-player tournaments. MLP had BLT, Masters Tour and the Yoda Cup, WPC runs WPC Expo and UIC has UIC Swiss. In SS, we view these supplementary competitions as the perfect place to 'blood' newcomers in interleagues. Quite a few players starting interleague life in BLT, WPC Expo or UIC Swiss have gone on to appear in mainstream team competitions.

All these interleagues are defined in more detail on the 'Interleagues' page on this website.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD INTERLEAGUE PLAYER?

TALENT: We need players skilful with safety play and in the use of 'English' spin, who know when to run and who can pot accurately. One mistake in interleague more often than not means defeat!

• COURTESY: We need players to respond to all interleague messages promptly.

• COMMITMENT: We need players to be available for the team regularly; we need them committed to the cause and to take it seriously.

RELIABLITY: We need players to turn up as agreed and to be punctual. Players letting the team down is unacceptable.

SPORTSMANSHIP: Very important for SS players. We will not tolerate bad sportsmanship.

SO DO YOU FIT THE BILL? ARE YOU A GOOD INTERLEAGUE PLAYER?
